Fortune Magazine Recognizes Tally as a "Best Workplace"

Tally

June 15, 2022

We love where we work and it shows! Tally is honored to announce we’ve been named one of the Best Workplaces in the Bay Area for 2022 by Fortune magazine – ranking among the highest scoring small and mid-sized companies.

Based entirely on employee feedback, this workplace award is a direct reflection of the human-first culture that we started at our San Francisco office back in 2015. Our core values – Don’t Say Nothing, Change Shoes Often and Own the Outcome – prioritize psychological safety, empathy and accountability. We hire based on these values and we’re committed to maintaining a culture that reinforces them in our day-to-day work.

Today, our team is now distributed across the U.S. and Canada, but more than a third of Tallizens (Tally employees) are still based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Over the last three years, we’ve adapted our benefits and culture to support remote work, spark innovation, encourage work-life balance and foster connections between Tallizens:

  • Tally Social Club: To help Tallizens connect with each other, we’ve been sponsoring local in-person and virtual activities led by employees. Most recently, these Tally Social Club gatherings have been focused on volunteer work (book donation drive, neighborhood cleanup), followed by a social event (dinner, escape room, movie night).

  • “Show Me What You’ve Got” Hackathon: Every first Thursday of the month, Tally hosts a hackathon where Tallizens can work on anything (as long as it’s tangentially related to Tally). Some have used the day to build prototypes, learn new tech or experiment.

  • Work From Home Stipends: To ensure Tallizens feel supported and able to do their best work, Tally offers two different stipends to help cover out-of-pocket costs. Every Tallizen can reimburse costs for internet service and cell phone service used for work. Tallizens can also get a budget for their home office setup, helping to purchase items such as a chair, desk, monitor or router.

  • Town Hall: Tallizens gather virtually every two weeks for an all-company meeting. This isn’t just a time to get company updates, it’s an opportunity to learn more about your fellow Tallizen. Each meeting is guest hosted by a different Tallizen who typically picks a theme (and sometimes an accompanying activity) that offers some fun insight on who they are as a person. Past Town Halls have included playing detective to solve a mystery, playing bingo, learning about underwater sea creatures or reassessing your health and fitness.
