Tally

June 21, 2023

Abigail Zundel is a Senior Fraud Operations Specialist at Tally based in Salt Lake City, Utah. In this role, Abi and the team work cross-functionally to pre-emptively identify product and member issues, and are often the first point of contact for new members. Most days, Abi processes member information and completes necessary fraud and verification processes, while working collaboratively to develop best practices for Tally’s fraud policies and procedures. Beyond their day to day, Abi also participates in cross-functional projects, where they find new ways to provide the best possible member experience while efficiently reviewing applications and keeping bad actors off of Tally’s platform.

On their career journey, Abi shares that “I love how I get to see something different every day. Fraudsters definitely keep me on my toes, and it's really interesting to see what people can come up with.” Upon reflecting on their favorite Tally value, Abi gravitates to Don’t Say Nothing (DSN), noting “I think that everyone's place at the table is important and everyone's questions or opinions are valuable.”

A Day in the Life of a Tallizen

Walk us through a day in your life. What does a typical workday look like for you?

Pre-work, I like to have a coffee and practice the piano to get my brain going before I start my day. When I first open my computer, I check our morning tasks and start to answer emails and review documents from users requiring verification. During the day, I keep an eye out for any duplicate cards that are being entered into our system and work on different projects. For example, right now, I'm working on updating Fraud's Confluence space - Tally’s knowledge sharing platform - to reflect our current processes and procedures. At the end of every day, I review the Know Your Customer (KYC) checks and internal fraud flags for our new accounts and either approve them or request verification documents from them. After work, I like to work on a puzzle or get some time outside!

Why did you pick the career that you chose? What do you love about your chosen field?

I came into this field by accident. I never considered a career in fraud, or even fintech, before I started working at Tally. I just thought that Tally would be a great fit for me, and I saw a lot of potential in this role.

Which of Tally’s core values - Don’t Say Nothing, Own the Outcome, Change Shoes Often - resonates most with you and why?

I always try to DSN! I think that everyone's place at the table is important and everyone's questions or opinions are valuable. I think my team does a great job of fostering an environment where people can feel comfortable speaking up.

If you could switch jobs with anybody else at Tally, who would you switch with and why?

I already think that I have the coolest job at Tally, but it would be fun to be the person who makes all the Tally animations on our platform.

How would you describe Tally in just one word?

Tell us your idea of the perfect day. What would you do?

My ideal day - I spend the morning doing chores and the afternoon hanging out in a perfectly clean apartment. Maybe I leave my house once to go to the park, or the pet store, but my perfect day is just being at home.

Tell us something that people would be surprised to know about you

I can play 5 instruments - piano, flute, violin, tuba, and trumpet.

What is the last thing you learned?

I just finished learning Solfeggietto on the piano.

If somebody made a movie about your life, who would play you?

Aubrey Plaza

What is your hidden talent?

I have no hidden talents because I love to talk about my hobbies so everyone I work with is always hearing about my little activities.

What are three things you can’t live without?

Coffee, having a little treat, taking a nap

A genie gives you three wishes—what are they?

1) I can read/write/speak every language

2) I am really good at karaoke, but not too good that it's weird for everyone else.

3) My car never needs repairs or gas again
